The Healing Power Of Daily Gratitude Meditation
Did you know that how you start your day has a lot to do with how your day unfolds for you? You might not see the connection at first but if you look back at what you were thinking and doing for the first hour after you got out of bed, then it might become clearer.
I’m going to say something now that may make a lot of sense to you – your thoughts are real forces! Every single thought we have either gives us energy and empowers us, or it drains us and holds us back. Quite often we’re not even aware of these thoughts except that we know we feel rushed and seem to be consistently running out of time. The result is we feel stressed.
Feeling stressed, hurried, overwhelmed or anxious is a sure-fire sign that the mind is out of control and has fallen far from the place of peace and calmness that we first woke-up with in the morning, even if it was only for a few fleeting moments.
How Does Gratitude Help?
By starting the day out with gratitude it means that you get to choose the energy you want to move through the day with. Gratitude is a positive emotion that flows from your heart and brings a feeling of happiness and peace to your mind and body.
By feeling grateful for what we do have in our lives first thing in the morning it sets the tone for the day to be one of thankfulness for all that may come. But it also does so much more than that. By focusing the mind on what we are thankful for in our lives it triggers our brain to release happy hormones through our body, which helps put us in a good mood.
Once you get into the habit of actively expressing gratitude through thoughts and action for all the gifts that life has already brought you, then you are sending out a powerful message to the Universe that you are ready to receive more to be grateful for. We always get back in life what we put out from us in word and deed. That’s why gratitude is so powerful.
Gratitude Meditation Practice
This is one of the most fun meditations you will ever do. It’s best to do it as soohttps://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wQKd2Xoz718enAMMZD7LjuaK7M-dsw1rCuJv57zY7sE/edit#gid=0n as you wake up and before you get out of bed. If it helps, you can sit up in your bed if you like. Then, with your eyes closed, think about 10 things that you are grateful for in your life. Take your time and as you think of each thing that you are thankful for really allow yourself to connect to it emotionally as well.
Feel the gratitude rise up in your heart for whatever it is you are thinking about. Then, once you can feel the gratitude flowing from your heart move onto the next thing. I like to do this meditation by saying out loud what I am grateful for. Then, when you gone through the 10 things you are grateful for, sit quietly for a moment and bask in your feeling of happiness and peace before moving on with your day.
As the day unfolds set a reminder to stop for a few moments during the busyness of the day and find one thing that you are grateful for in that moment. When you do, you will be amazed at how quickly this can turn chaos into calm.
