You might be wondering what meditation and courage have to do with each other? They actually compliment each other perfectly, let me explain why. To achieve anything of significance in life requires courage and the more successful you want to be, the more courage it will require.
What is Courage?
Courage is like a muscle in that the more you work it physically and mentally, the bigger it gets. Courage starts with the mind. If your mind is frozen in fear then courage will be nowhere to be seen until will power is stronger than your won’t power.
Even if we do physical acts that challenge us to step up and be more courageous, before we can a single step forward we still need to make a decision to take action. That decision comes from the mind. Once it is made, then taking the step into courage is simple, but until then our fear stands in the way.
Courage can be learned – just like most of the skills that we need to cultivate in order to live the best version of our lives possible. The only requirement is that you are willing to face your fears instead of giving into them. Every time you step into the unknown and put aside your fears your courage muscles grow and it gets easier to use them again.
No matter what it is that you want to achieve in your life courage is probably the most important skill you will ever need to learn, It’s what will help you to step outside your comfort zones so that you can live your life fully, freely, and authentically, without compromising yourself in any way.
Every time you feel challenged, that’s when you need to step forward towards the challenge. That’s how your courage grows and your spirit starts to fly free. The more steps you take, the more you start to feel that your life is an amazing adventure in which there are no limits to what you can be, do or have.
As you become more courageous your fears start to disappear and your joy for life, and the adventures it brings, brings new meaning to your life. This is when you truly start to feel alive and that you have all the internal resources you’ll ever need to make a difference not only in your life, but in the lives of all those you seek to serve.
Meditation For Courage And Confidence
As courage starts with the mind it makes sense that what we need to become aware of is when the mind is fixated on fear. Here’s how we can use mindfulness to double, triple or even quadruple our personal courage and let go of fear:
Step 1: Notice when the mind is holding you back from saying, being or doing something because of a fear.
Step 2: Accept these thoughts and feelings. By not judging them, you are sending a message to your sub-conscious mind that it’s okay to be afraid.
Step 3: Allow any fearful thoughts to come and go without getting caught up in them, just like you would watch clouds float by in a clear blue sky.
Step 4: Put your hands on your lower belly and feel your breath connecting all the way to this part of your body with each breath in and out. Do this for a few minutes.
Step 5: Let go of both the mind and body and be still for a minute or two to allow your energy to balance.
Step 6: Open you eyes and take immediate action on whatever it is you were holding back on. Don’t think about it – just do it. It doesn’t matter how big or small the step is, just do something towards proving to yourself that what you want is more important than what you fear.
Step 7: Reward yourself for taking action. It can be as simple as giving yourself a pat on the back.
If you follow these simple steps to facing fear and developing courage using nothing more than being mindful of the choices you are making with the mind, then your life will rapidly start to become the adventure you always dreamed it could be.
The more you do this, the more courage you will have. And as you become more daring and courageous that’s when your health, wealth, relationships, happiness, and quality of life, will take off in leaps and bounds. Most of all you will have a sense of confidence and certainty about yourself and your life that can never be taken away from you.
