Most of us tend to go through emotional ups and downs in both our personal and work lives. This can lead to all sorts of challenges, especially if things get out of hand. That’s why many people are now turning towards meditation practices to see if they can learning the secret to having less stress and more zen.
Let’s face it, who wouldn’t want some more calm in their everyday lives? Yet, for some people, it seems that even with all the hype surrounding meditation these days it still eludes them. To enjoy being less emotionally reactive and more emotionally resilient it’s necessary to train the mind to have a different relationship with your emotions.
Recent scientific studies showed that people who regularly do mindfulness meditation reported that they felt more emotionally balanced and less stressed. This has been backed up by neuroscientists at Stanford who were able to observe a reduction in reactivity in parts of the brain associated with regulation emotions.
Meditation And Emotions
Here are three simple ways that mindfulness meditation can help to reduce difficult emotions.
- It helps to unwind the mind. At the core of meditation, it’s all about centering yourself. When we are centered then calmness and emotional resilience is a breeze. It’s when we get all wound up on the inside that it becomes easier for the mind to blow things out of proportion and lead us down the path of stress and negativity.
- It helps you to relax on the inside. When you meditate it helps to change the way your brain relates to stress and anxiety. When that happens, then the way you think about yourself also starts to change. Instead of being tense and uptight, it helps you to relax and feel better about yourself.
- It helps you to feel more love. Most of the things that trigger negative emotions in us, especially in relationships, have their roots in feeling that we are being judged on some level. While this may be true, it’s also true that the only time we ever react to judgment is when we don’t allow enough love for ourselves. Meditation helps you to become more open, loving and compassionate towards yourself and the world around you. The result is that you feel less negativity, and more compassion and peace.
To start enjoying less emotional imbalance and more calm in your life then start out with a 5-minute meditation each day and slowly work your way up to 15 to 20 minutes. Once you get into the habit of meditating on a regular basis, then you’ll notice an instant shift in how you think and feel.
